Hello everybody welcome to the five minutes PM podcast today. I like to discuss with you about the volunteer work, but not the Importance Anne or the relevance of their volunteer work. I want to discuss how important is the Volunteer your work to develop people. And in this scenario that we are talking about project management, how we can develop project management skills at the Volunteer work.

A lot of people send me a message. I received this all the time. Picardo, I'm interested in project management. I did courses. I studied it, but I'm not able to apply this in my real life. My job, the company, he's not fully mature in product management. They don't give the Valerie that I give to proper planning. So I cannot apply this in my business, but I want to develop this. What can I do?

And then the answer to this question is do volunteer work. Why do volunteer work? Because volunteer work, you have motivation. And do you have most of the time freedom to dedicate your time to do things that you believe? Let me give you my own experience. I give a lot of one time over the past 12, 13 years to PMI and why I did that first.

I believe, I believe that this can make a difference. And second, for sure, I had my own interest of doing business internationally of meeting people and developing my project management skills. And one of the best far the best schools I have ever had in Project was BMI handling projects inside PMI, handling prejudice for PMI, working with volunteers.

And this is it. My project management experience So apply. Doesn't understand in your own life. I'm not telling you all become Volunteer of only PMI. No know this is not an advertisement of PMI. This is an advertisement of how you can improve your skills, doing volunteer work. So for your church, for your community, for your hospital, for something that you believe you can and apply project management skills and what you will win with that you will win not only your own satisfaction, we love helping people, but also you will increase your ability to apply project management.

You will raise the bar of your knowledge. Imagine I remembered that it a F week that happened about one year and a half ago. I remember is that imagine if I could, unfortunately I couldn't, but imagine if I could go to Heidi to help the community and to use that the project management skills to help them to improve it will be wonderful, wonderful first for the society there one time, and also for my self, the happiness, my happiness, my own happiness in turn, it will be in the car.

Streamline is extremely important experience in product management. He imagined if I can help them to arrange the scope off of rebuilding, have one part of the, the city or one hospital or not cleaning up one area. I can use scope management, risk management, time management, cost management, quality management. I can apply all the PMBOK related knowledge and also all portfolio management, product selection, criteria, indicators, everything that we learn and the book's we can apply in the volunteer work in another environment because in the Volunteer work, we have a very strong motivation.

It's not money related motivation. So we can apply this end for the young people that are starting in the project management field. This will be, you know, I also your curriculum, this will show you for example, when the Experience in the United nations in Africa, helping them in some projects for me, maybe it's 10 times more relevant in, you know, CV that any order Experience in private companies, because I have been to Africa.

So I know how hard this to handle and do volunteer work there. So look, it's not only building up your experience in the capitalist way of doing business, but we can raise our bar and raise our knowledge, raise yours, our CV and our Experience doing volunteer, work, applying and project management to do this project in the Volunteer site. This will help the society and will also help us to understand better project management.
